Exemption of visa to Chinese citizens increase tourists to Peru

Exemption of visa to Chinese citizens

The citizens of the Republic of China will be exempt from the temporary tourist visas and business to enter Peru, according to a Supreme Decree of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Undoubtedly, this news represents an important opportunity to increase the flow of tourists to Peru from the huge Chinese market, a commitment that has taken Promperú through its sustained presence in that market.

According to the Supreme Decree 069-2016-RE, which takes effect in 20 days, the exemption will apply for Chinese citizens with permanent residence or who hold visas valid for at least six months in the United States, Canada, UK, Australia or state of the Schengen area.

Furthermore, the text states that the maximum period of stay in Peru will be up to 180 days, either as a continuous visit or several consecutive visits for six months.

According to the Foreign Tourist Profile 2015 produced by PromPeru, the average stay of Chinese visitors in Peru is ten nights, has an average cost of $ 1,391 and 73% are staying in hotels of four and five stars. In addition, the most visited destinations are Lima, Cusco, Arequipa and Loreto.

It should be noted that in 2015 arrived to Peru 19.243 Chinese tourists, which represented an increase of 16% compared to 2014, which consolidates China as the third source of tourists from Asia to Peru.

Also in the first six months of this year the growth of this market was 25.1% compared to the same period last year, while Hong Kong grew 26.9%.
